BEHIND PRODUCTION
Behind the production of our Kenyan single-origin coffee lies a story of dedication, collaboration, and exceptional craftsmanship. Sasa Sestic, the visionary founder of Project Origin Coffee, has tirelessly curated relationships with coffee farms worldwide, including the esteemed Gaikundo Farmer’s Co-Op in Kenya. Gaikundo, nestled at an altitude of 1800 meters, boasts the perfect terroir for cultivating superior coffee beans, primarily of the SL28 and SL34 varietals.

What sets this coffee apart is its natural processing method—a rarity in Kenya. Unlike the more common washed process, natural processing involves drying the coffee cherries whole, allowing the fruit to ferment and infuse the beans with unique flavors. The decision to process this coffee naturally speaks volumes about Gaikundo's commitment to innovation and quality. Gaikundo Farmer’s Co-Op, situated in the heart of Kenya's coffee-producing region, is renowned for its dedication to quality and sustainability. The cooperative's focus on empowering local farmers and implementing best practices ensures that each coffee bean is imbued with the essence of its terroir.

Purchasing this exceptional Kenyan coffee from Gaikundo reflects our commitment to sourcing the finest beans from around the world. We at Kudu are proud to bring you this exquisite coffee, which is a testament to the passion and expertise of the farmers who cultivate it. With every cup, you're not just experiencing a delicious beverage but also supporting a community and a tradition that spans generations.
LOCATION
In the heart of Kenya's famed coffee-producing region lies the picturesque area of Nyeri, home to the Gaikundo Farmer’s Co-Op. This region is blessed with rich volcanic soil, optimal altitude, and a favorable climate, all of which contribute to the exceptional quality of the coffee grown here. Nyeri's unique environmental conditions provide the perfect ecosystem for coffee cultivation. The region experiences distinct wet and dry seasons, creating ideal conditions for the coffee plants to thrive. Additionally, the volcanic soil in Nyeri is rich in nutrients, imparting distinct flavors and characteristics to the coffee beans.

Gaikundo Farmer’s Co-Op, located within Nyeri, is situated at elevations reaching 1800 meters above sea level. This high altitude not only contributes to the unique flavor profile of the coffee but also slows down the maturation process of the coffee cherries, allowing for more complex and nuanced flavors to develop. The cooperative's commitment to sustainable farming practices further enhances the quality of the coffee produced. By implementing environmentally friendly techniques such as shade-grown cultivation and natural processing methods, Gaikundo ensures that their coffee is not only delicious but also ethically produced.

In summary, the combination of Nyeri's favorable climate, nutrient-rich soil, and high altitude, coupled with Gaikundo Farmer’s Co-Op's dedication to sustainable farming practices, results in the production of exceptional coffee beans with a distinctive flavor profile that truly captures the essence of this unique terroir.

About Kenya Harvest

Harvest
Kenya has two harvesting periods each year. The early harvest, or fly crop, is from May to August and the main harvest is October to February. Coffees will typically ship from each origin about 3-4 months after the harvest begins.
